Meltwater Lakes
Meltwater lakes (also called proglacial lakes) often form near the terminus of the glacier as the ice melts.
The lakes shown here are near the terminus of the Upper Theodul Glacier along the Matterhorn Glacier Trail. The photograph to the right also shows two cirque glaciers and their retreat surfaces in the background.
